processes and faculties. If we learn how to master our minds, eventually we can help create our destiny. You may not have control over the things that happens to you but developing a right attitude (using your power house-the mind) towards what happens to you will help you override the overwhelming changes you face in life. In other words, change the attitude of the mind...change how you deal with life, ultimately increase your chances of success.
Hence, it is necessary to train your mind to do good and to become great. I believe that everyone should develop a positive mindset to towards God and life. Through this writing my aim is develop an awareness of the power of the mind by identifying three kinds of mind (and how it can affect who we are and our ultimate success in life.) I am no expert on this topic of the mind, but I do pray that God will use this to encourage and inspire you.
A Valley of Dead Skulls, A Slave Pen or A Purified Reservoir?
A Valley of Dead Skulls?
⦁ A valley of dead skulls is an unproductive mind.
You become stagnant. It's almost like your mind freezes to the point where you're blocked out from the realities of life due to many disappointments. You no longer make conscious decisions. You fail to take responsibility for your mistakes so you're still living in your past and not the present. You focus on the impossibilities and not the power of possibilities. Instead of living life you're living a lie: the lies that "you can't make it, you would never be better, "It's just who I am", success is for the rich not the poor, it's my family background, life is too hard I can't compete with it, I don't have what it takes!"
Turn that around: Take heart, you are robbing your self from the blessings of life! Mind you, every such thought are traps Satan sets up to tie you down and prevent from seeing and experiencing the life of prosperity and happiness that God has in store for you. If he can get you to think like that, he is only helping you to create a hell for you. Beware!
⦁ You have a pessimistic world view of life.
Persons who have a negative view of life kills dreams, aspirations and allow their souls to become avenues of doom. You believe that there is nothing worth living for. You feel that your life is meaningless and useless. "So what's the purpose" is the question you ask.
⦁ You live in fear...too afraid to even try... (to think).
Fear is nothing more than a state of mind, therefore you can conquer your fears by changing your thoughts. Change your perspective of God! When your mind is filled with fear, you shut down the outside world. Instead of communicating or facing your fears, you foolishly or ignorantly subdue to them. How can I be productive if, I fear taking the next step?
“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”― Frank Herbert, Dune
⦁ You have an unbelieving mind:
You put God in a box. Any mindset or thinking that stands in opposition to God will chronic the opportunities and privileges you have in life. In other words, it sets the mind in hostile to God. (Romans 1:28 and Ephesians 4:17-18) The "mind" of the one who does not know God is in a state of futility and debasement. On the reverse side, the mind which knows God and believes in Him lives a life full of meaning and true success. (Romans 8:5-6 ESV)
⦁ You allow your thoughts to control you.
The mind is a place where good and evil contest to win you over. If you're not careful in deciding what goes in and out, and what remains, your may be in danger of a very unaccomplished life. You allow discouraging and negative thoughts to imprison your mind. You have the power to control your thoughts. (2 Corinthians 10:5(ESV)). What resides in your mind depends on what you feed your mind. So take charge! You are responsible for the outcome! It begins with how you think.
⦁ You refuse to take initiative for yourself, you let others think for you. You're too conscious of what people say or think about you, so you fear to be different. We become a slave to what we believe in. Thus, if you believe that the negative things that people say to or about you are true then you'll subdue to them. But- wait a minute!
Who's approval are you tying to win, people's or God's? ( Colossians 3:23 Ephesians 6:7) So long as your way of living pleases God who has predominance over your life and the entire universe, it will become easier for you to suppress the thoughts of others about you. Don't let them define who you are! Through God's eyes, you decide who you are and what you're gonna be. Stop living the dream of others, live your own dream!
- You let your past control your present and your future You have no sense of direction because instead of opening your mind to new possibilities you let the regrets and infidelities of your past take root. You can not allow failures and regrets of the past define your present.
A Purified Reservoir?
⦁ Your mind becomes like a purified reservoir through daily renewal; it is a refreshing and believing mind. The mind must be renewed in order to conform to or apprehend the will of God. -(Romans 12:2) In that way, you allow God to guide your thoughts and feelings and emotions. You will also develop the right perspectives in life. You believe in God and seek His counsel, seek to please Him.- (2 Corinthians 10:5). Ephesians 4:23 encourages us to"be made new in the attitude of your minds". When God changes you, He transforms your mind with new thoughts, new motives, new perspectives, deeper insights. Seek Him from day to day!
⦁ You believe in possibilities even though you may have disappointments, because there is always another way, or other opportunities, you believe.
⦁ You are not bound by your past, you focus on the present (and the future).
You're not trying to undo the past or living in regrets...instead you look forward to new beginnings and new experiences.
⦁You're the boss, not your unedifying and impure thoughts, or perception or those of others. You take initiative! You realize your potential to do great, to become better, to achieve more. And you believe that "you can"... You focus on possibilities, what can be instead of what could have been. You take responsibility for your actions and the choices you make.
⦁ You focus on God and not the problem or situation. The main thing is that you try to view life through God's eyes. A mind that remains focus of God and trust Him could never stay perplexed. You will have peace and facing the test of time will become easier. You will make sane and wise decisions and even though life doesn't make sense sometimes you can still move on to succeed. You will realize that every decision you make today will impact who or what you'll become and your advancement in life. Your perspective about God matters!
Your mind has such immense impact on your individuality which can either hinder or expand your chances of success in life. So I encourage you to ask God to guide your thoughts and emotions, to give you pure minds and clean hearts. Here is a starter. Chose today to think on the following things. I guarantee it will set your mind focusing in the right direction. Develop that thinking pattern and it will change your life for better. In fact things that are of such quality is what you should believe in if you want to master the attitude of your mind...if you want to succeed.
"...Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise."(-Philippians 4:8 )
Remember! "Our life always expresses the result of our dominant thoughts."-Soren Kierkegaard
Therefore, we make choices in life but in the end they will make us.
