Defending My Imperfections
by Tamra Brathwaite
You know me?
You sit down and you
create a profile of who I am
what I'm suppose to be
how I suppose to act
or what I suppose to look like
But have you really notice?
I'm not as perfect as most people think I am
I don't understand why you try
to perfect my world of imperfections
Why put me in a world where I don't belong
So, you know me?
I am a fragile box of coloured grass
fashioned with a shine to make me look good
I use complicated expressions to act super intelligent
I echo words with double meanings
to appear smart and strategic
I refute the wrong and disagreeable
in order to feel in charge
